Vince Gilligan Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the popular series reaching its finale—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Big Question: Will the creator See the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
