On his inauguration day in office, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “transform” America's largest city, promising “a fresh chapter” and an ambitious start to his administration.
An Unprecedented Leader
The new figure, who just a year ago remained a virtually unknown state assemblyman, has become the city's first mayor of South Asian descent. He also made history by being the inaugural to be sworn in using the Qur'an.

Mamdani ended his address with a direct statement: “The work has only just begun.”
