The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
