The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign featuring continental glory and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he shared with Steven Bartlett: “I stated I will never coach a different club within the country. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide down the line, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties weekly.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in all competitions following significant transfers, though he denied the idea of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. Jota lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond the player himself, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly about it. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Dealing with that individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
