An extensive two-month voyage circling the Australian Coast was terminated days after the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a pause. The ship left without her and came back after some time after the crew discovered the lady was missing.

An extensive hunt found her remains the following day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer said that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its return.

Sequence of Events

The ship originally sailed from the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Guests on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of dollars to join the voyage - were taken there for a daily excursion with the possibility of trekking or snorkeling.

Family Response

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "shocked and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an organised tour without my parent".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mother as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a member of a hiking organization.

"According to scant information we have been informed, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she desired the investigation would be able to identify what "the operator should have undertaken that might have saved Her being".
