Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
