New Year's Partygoers Urged to Wrap Up Warm with Snowfall Forecast Across the UK
Weather experts have indicated a chilly beginning to the new year, with snow likely throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants have been told to bundle up as sub-zero temperatures are forecast for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Plans Proceed Amid Alerts
Edinburgh's famous Hogmanay celebrations are planned to proceed, a contrast to last year's cancellation. This proceeds amid advisories for snow in northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve evening for those partying, so additional clothing will be necessary," said the national forecaster.
Displays Under Clear but Frosty Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be perfect for fireworks shows, with no rain and clear skies. The mercury are expected to be chilly, making warm wraps a necessity, as per forecasters.
Further north, skies will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to hamper visibility for seeing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you will likely be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.
Widespread Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
Heading into Friday, advisories are active across Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, through the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

- Travelers are advised to plan for delays for trips on the road.
- Disruptions and cancellations are expected on public transport.
Readings Set to Plummet Further
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are set to fall even more as snowfall and high winds are expected to affect the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is forecast to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the highest roads and hills.
Health Alerts Released
Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Authorities stated this signified the weather was expected to lead to major effects across the NHS and care systems. This involves a potential rise in the mortality rate among the elderly or unwell or those aged 65 or over.
