In the wake of a pivotal victory at the Qatar Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver has dramatically reduced the margin in the driver's standings. He is now positioned just 12 points behind leader Lando Norris and in front of teammate his McLaren rival, everything is in place for a nail-biting three-way championship battle at the famous Yas Marina Circuit.

Verstappen's most recent win was far from predictable. Although he delivered a masterful drive for his team, the victory was heavily influenced by a costly strategic call from the McLaren team. This philosophy as he puts it alleviates the pressure. The aim for the ultimate battle is clear: to maximize every single element from himself and the RB21.

An Improbable Comeback Driven by Innovation and Unity.

What makes Verstappen's late-season charge so impressive is the margin he has recovered. After the Dutch Grand Prix in August, he was an enormous 104 points behind the championship leader Oscar Piastri and had openly dismissed his title chances.

The shift began with major performance updates introduced by his team at the Italian Grand Prix. Modifications to the vehicle's underbody and front wing rectified persistent performance deficits, allowing Verstappen to regain confidence with the chassis once more.

From then on, his performance has been utterly spectacular, securing five victories and several top-three finishes. He was quick to credit the unified work behind this success.

"We have achieved victories where maybe we shouldn't have, by executing the right call as a team," he explained. "My collaboration with my engineer, GP and the every member... we are perfectly synchronized."

The Scenario for a Unforgettable Finale.

With the paddock head to Abu Dhabi, the points situation is crystal clear.

• Lando Norris is in position to win his first-ever world title if he beats both Verstappen and Piastri or secures a top-three position.
• Max Verstappen has to take the checkered flag first and hope that his rival places fourth or lower.
• Oscar Piastri, who is by sixteen points, needs a victory and see his teammate finish sixth or worse.

The intensity now shifts on McLaren, who have seen a sizable lead disappear due to costly errors, including a twin DSQ in Las Vegas. In his view, this position brings a sense of freedom, transforming the last event into a pure shot at the title with zero pressure.
