Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
