Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has died aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round in the 2024 NFL Draft and appeared in 18 games for the team, including four starts.

He recorded his initial touchdown in the Tuesday game to the Arizona Cardinals when he retrieved a blocked punt.

"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys stated.

"We send our condolences regarding Marshawn are with his partner Catalina and his loved ones."

Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football for Western Michigan.

His agent, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the passing of a player who "poured his heart" into every moment.

"I saw him strive his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a dream to being a esteemed pro for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.

The NFL stated it is "deeply saddened" by the news.
