Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important representative said the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
