Canada's Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team reached their maiden championship series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, propelling the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, making him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd prefer in that situation besides George Springer with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it hurts" following his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their work this season.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
