Brian Eno Urges Support to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Support and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to support Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down following a large-scale benefit event held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a group of acclaimed names from the scene. All participated in the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for relief efforts.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The track features a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the project have emphasized that their aim is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a vast majority of buildings described as destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is above all making this cause better known and proving that another narrative exists.”
The song is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
