Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
